Basic Environmental Philosophy

Global environmental problems are serious social problems in recent years, and companies’ environmental initiatives are becoming increasingly important. In this environment, Sanyo Trading will actively undertake initiatives to contribute to global environmental conservation and will make the utmost efforts for sustainable social development through sound business activities.

Basic Environmental Policy

1. We will propose and provide products and services for reducing the environmental impact when we sell rubber products, chemical products, machines and equipment, industrial materials and scientific instruments, among other products.
2. We will prevent environmental pollution in our business activities and will continue to improve the environmental management system.
3. We will comply with laws and regulations, ordinances, and other requirements that we have accepted related to the environment and will work on environmental management.
4. We will reduce the environmental impact caused by business activities, focusing on the items below. We will periodically review these items and change them as needed.
   • Actively selling environmentally friendly products and equipment
   • Reducing waste and promoting recycling
   • Advocating energy saving and resources saving
   • Facilitating green purchasing
5. We will document the environmental management system and will operate, maintain and manage the system based on the documentation.
6. We will expand the awareness all officers and employees about these environmental policies and will publish them.

Environmental Management System

Sanyo Trading achieved ISO 14001 certification (registration), an environmental management system international standard, on September 10, 2004, for the business activities, products and services below at the Head Office, Osaka branch, Nagoya branch and Hiroshima office (achieved in 2020).

Achievements of ISO Initiatives

Climate Change

Sanyo Trading places “reducing environmental impact” as one of its Materiality and expressed its support for the Recommendations of the TCFD^※ in December 2022.
Under the TCFD recommendations, Sanyo Trading will assess climate change risks and opportunities to incorporate the assessment into its management strategies while promoting disclosure.

^※TCFD: Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures
TCFD is founded by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) at the request of the G20 in 2015.
The TCFD recommends businesses to evaluate the financial impact that climate-related risks and opportunities have on their management and disclose matters on governance, strategy, risk management, metrics, and targets.

Environmental Initiatives

The following is our major environmental initiatives.

Promoting Environmentally Friendly Materials and Products in Each Business Segment

Sanyo Trading actively uses epoxidized natural rubber, an environmentally friendly material, and next-generation materials, including Carbon Neat, a plant-derived material. We also actively work to offer environmentally friendly ISCC PLUS certified products of Perstorp based on the mass balance concept. In addition, we work to develop products that will substitute agricultural chemicals to reduce environmental impact.

Contribution to Climate Change Initiatives

Sanyo Trading contributes to climate change initiatives, such as determining greenhouse gas emissions, by providing gas analyzers and stable isotope ratio analyzers.

Participation in “Keidanren Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation”

Sanyo Trading has endorsed the Keidanren Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation. Initiatives to pass down rich marine ecosystems to the next generation using marine equipment handled by the Cosmos Shoji, a Group company, are introduced.
